Pirate Party MP Sven Clement confirmed on Thursday that police had searched his home, other party members’ homes, and the Pirates party headquarters.

“The police came to my house and to the homes of other party members. The Pirates party premises and the political sensibility were also searched,” Clement said on RTL Radio Thursday morning.

The searches were ordered by the European Public Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the "MALT" translation app.

“I have cooperated fully, and I also want transparency and clarity in this case,” he added on the programme.

Clement, who co-founded the Pirates, also spoke on the party's future, assuring that he had no intention of leaving.

For the MP, this is “a phase of turmoil that all parties eventually go through.” He reaffirmed his “heartfelt” membership, noting it took about fifteen years to build the party. Above all, he hopes that their work will not be forgotten.

Sven Clement closed by stating that the development of the MALT app “had been a mistake for the Pirates party.”
