Home Affairs Minister Léon Gloden is bringing Air Rescue and the Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps of Luxembourg (CGDIS) around the same table in September. The debate itself is not new. Air Rescue has been pushing for some time to take on responsibility for tackling fires in Luxembourg, particularly forest fires in hard-to-reach areas.
Gloden has now weighed in, calling a meeting for September at which Air Rescue and the CGDIS will sit down together to work out how the two might cooperate effectively.
Alain Di Genova, director of logistics at the CGDIS, was quick to point out that Luxembourg's vegetation looks rather different from what one finds in France, and that forest fires here are, first and foremost, fought from the ground. When it comes to accepting help, though, he added, one should never say never.
