According to information by RTL, the party leadership actively supported Leners, a left-wing activist, to strengthen the political presence within the State Council.
Leners gained recognition before the last general election with his publication “Das politische ABC des Luc Frieden” (“The political ABC of Luc Frieden”), in which he sharply criticised current Prime Minister Luc Frieden’s “neoliberal politics.”
Despite placing 17th on the LSAP’s southern list in last year’s legislative elections with nearly 17,000 votes, Leners did not secure a seat in the chamber.
The LSAP expressed pride in nominating Leners, viewing it as an opportunity to amplify youth voices within the State Council.
