As part of the week of tests for the new ‘LU-Alert’ information and warning system, which was officially launched on 17 October 2024, the Ministry of Home Affairs has informed the public that the ‘Cell Broadcast’ alert channel will be tested throughout the country on Tuesday morning. This test follows the regional test carried out in the canton of Mersch on Monday.

The Ministry describes ‘Cell Broadcast’ as a highly intrusive alert channel, with transmitted messages taking the form of priority notifications that appear on the screen of mobile devices even if they are in silent or locked mode, and are accompanied by an audible alert and vibration. After a few seconds, the beeping stops on its own.

As this is a test alert, there is no need to take any action or adopt any particular behaviour. The Ministry has further announced that only people whose devices have the latest software updates are expected to receive the alert.
