A major search operation was launched around Echternach Lake on Sunday evening after a nine-year-old boy was reported missing. He was last seen at the lake at around 3.45pm. Police patrols were deployed on the ground, supported by a police helicopter providing aerial surveillance. Search and rescue dogs from the Luxembourg Red Cross and professional divers were also brought in to assist with the search.

The police confirmed shortly after 8pm that all possible leads as to the boy's whereabouts were being investigated, with the search extending beyond the lake itself to the surrounding area, the town of Echternach, and even the German side of the Echternach Bridge. At around 9.15pm, Luxembourg police officers were reportedly searching across the border as part of the coordinated effort.

The operation around the lake was still ongoing after 9pm, although the divers had by then left the water. Police, the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), and the police helicopter continued their search into the late evening.

At 9.49pm, police announced via their press office that the missing boy had been found safe and in good health near the Echternach Bridge.

On Monday morning, the public prosecutor’s office issued a statement confirming that, based on current information, there is no evidence to suggest that a third party was involved in the boy’s disappearance. Authorities further stated that there were no indications of any criminal offence. As per protocol, police will prepare a report and submit it to the relevant judicial authorities.
