With rising energy costs driving public interest, Klima-Agence has reported 15,000 interactions since January 2024, indicating a significant uptick in enquiries for energy transition support.

Klima-Agence, the national body responsible for promoting a sustainable energy transition, is expecting a record number of enquiries this year due to soaring energy prices.

Since the beginning of 2024, the government agency has recorded 15,000 interactions, including phone calls and on-site consultations. This announcement was made on Tuesday during a press conference where Klima-Agence reviewed its offerings of free, independent advice for individuals looking to implement energy transition plans.

A significant portion of enquiries is focused on photovoltaics, with half of the hotline calls related to this topic. Sarah Juchems, head of the "Advice and Operational Implementation" department at Klima-Agence, noted a surge in calls during September, following the government's announcement that subsidies for photovoltaics would decrease from a ceiling of 62.5% to 50% on 1 October. Demand for consultations remains strong even now.

The agency highlights that Luxembourg still possesses considerable potential for renovations in general. Juchems emphasised that they have never had to inform a private individual seeking advice that no improvements could be made.

Fenn Faber, director of Klima-Agence, announced the launch of a new initiative aimed at supporting the renovation of residential blocks. The agency is currently seeking five blocks of flats interested in pursuing sustainable renovations. These buildings will receive support of up to €40,000 for a feasibility study to assess essential technical elements and determine their renovation potential.

Klima-Agence also offers guidance to tenants. If tenants are facing high energy bills, the agency's consultants can help identify which appliances in their flats can be replaced to reduce electricity consumption. Additionally, the Social Office can provide assistance with bill payments if necessary. However, when it comes to the actual renovation, tenants are dependent on their landlords. Faber also highlighted that, at the European level, the energy classification of buildings is becoming increasingly important.
