Even if news of the Pope’s illness reached Luxembourg on Monday and put the papal visit on Thursday in jeopardy, preparations continue to run at full speed. The Information and Press Service (SIP) has tasked RTL and BCE to manage live coverage of the event, and technical installations are being set up around key locations since Sunday evening.
Close to 120 people and 50 cameras will manage coverage on Thursday. Several kilometres worth of cables have been laid and two news-room lorries will be in the capital to ensure that everything runs smoothly. Several test-runs will also be made up until Wednesday evening.
According to Tom Weber, RTL’s technical director, the challenge will be to coordinate all the different sites and staff to perfection given that all coverage will be live. Nevertheless, Weber expressed optimism that they will be up to the challenge.
So, if you are not able to make it into Luxembourg City on Thursday to get a glimpse of the Pope, then do not forget to tune into our live coverage, which will be accessible directly via RTL Today and all our sister sites.
