The birth centre in Trier is no longer allowed to use one of its two rooms for births. Various German media, including the Trierischer Volksfreund and Der Spiegel, report that a neighbour who lives only ten metres from the centre had felt disturbed by the women’s screams during labour. The centre had only started operating in 2025, offering expectant parents an alternative to traditional hospital wards.

The man subsequently filed a complaint with the Trier administrative court. The birth centre ultimately reached a settlement with the man: they would no longer use the room closest to his apartment for births, and in return, the man would refrain from taking further legal action. The room in question happens to be the larger of the two rooms, in which births in a birthing pool had also been possible up until now.

The centre’s management told the Tagesschau that this situation was a catastrophe, as 90% of mothers had opted for the birthing pool during labour.
