The Government Council has approved Tom Haas as the next director of STATEC, with the 41-year-old set to take the reins on 1 November.

Tom Haas, a 41-year-old economic statistician, will take over as director of Luxembourg's National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (STATEC) on 1 November, following the retirement of Serge Allegrezza at the end of October.

The Government Council approved Haas' appointment during its meeting on Wednesday, following a proposal by Minister of the Economy Lex Delles. Haas, who has been with STATEC for 15 years, will officially assume the role as of 1 November 2024.

STATEC, which employs more than 220 staff members, is set to relocate to its new offices in Esch-Belval in October.
