The Luxembourg police have issued a warning about a new wave of blackmail emails, with several cases reported in the past few hours.
These emails claim that the sender has gained access to the recipient's devices and has discovered intimate photos or videos.
The recipient is then instructed to transfer a large sum of money to a cryptocurrency account, with the threat that the alleged images will be made public and shared with family and acquaintances if the demand is not met.
The police emphasise that this is a scam and advise recipients to delete the email immediately. Such emails are typically sent automatically to a large number of addresses and should be marked as "spam."
If someone has suffered a financial loss by paying the requested amount, they should file a complaint at a police station. The police also remind the public that the emergency number 113 is reserved for urgent situations and should not be used in this context.
