According to Leon Glodden, the police have ramped up document checks on drivers, leading to over 850 tickets for missing licences, 120 for unauthorised driving and 950 for insurance related offences.
The police has intensified its checks on car documents, according to Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden in a response to a parliamentary question posed by Democratic Party (DP) MPs Luc Emering and André Bauler.
While no statistics are maintained on the total number of drivers checked, data is available on those caught violating the law.
Over the past six months, for example, 850 drivers were ticketed for not carrying their driving licence, and another 120 were fined for not having a driving licence in the first place but being behind the wheel regardless.
Insurance-related offences also remain, with many drivers not having their insurance papers with them at the time of the control, or for driving with uninsured vehicles. Around 950 tickets have been issued for such offences.
