The Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL) has outlined two significant construction projects that will impact rail travel during the summer months.

From 13 July to 11 August, Bettembourg station will be closed to facilitate the renewal of the Emile Hammerel bridge by the Bridges and Roads Authority. This closure will affect train services between:

  • Luxembourg City and Thionville
  • Luxembourg City and Esch/Alzette
  • Luxembourg City/Bettembourg and Volmerange-les-Mines
  • Noertzange and Rumelange

During this period, replacement bus services will be available, albeit with travel times potentially extended by 30 to 45 minutes. Passengers are advised to check the CFL website for further details.

Then from 12 August to 15 September, rail traffic will be interrupted between Luxembourg City and Bettembourg to facilitate ongoing work on the new Luxembourg City-Bettembourg line and the extension of the Howald interchange.

During this phase, trains will be replaced by a shuttle bus service operating every five minutes during peak times and every 15 minutes during off-peak hours.

Additionally, CFL has announced adjustments to TGV services during the Olympic Games. From 28 July to 11 August, TGV services between Luxembourg City and Paris will be rerouted to run between Rodange and Paris, resulting in an approximate 45-minute increase in travel time.
