According to a report from the Ministry of Education, 1,716 students dropped out of school during the 2022/2023 academic year, representing a dropout rate of 7.6%, which is a slight decrease from the previous year.

The Ministry notes that while some students who drop out may re-enroll the following year, certain groups are more vulnerable to leaving education prematurely.

Particularly at risk are students who fall behind academically by at least two years, with males being disproportionately affected compared to females. The highest dropout rates occur in the third and fourth years of secondary school.

According to the Ministry, Luxembourg is meeting European targets in addressing dropout rates.
