Bolt, the prominent mobility platform known for its private driver booking services, has announced plans to establish a presence in Luxembourg.
The company made its intentions clear during a press briefing on Thursday morning, stating, “Bolt wishes to launch its taxi services in Luxembourg.”
This move comes amid Uber’s recent partnership with Webtaxi to enter the Luxembourg market, as well as the new service called LetzRide.
As Uber revs its engines in Luxembourg, Bolt’s announcement signals its intent to compete directly, promising to introduce its taxi booking services soon.
The company, which presents itself as “the main mobility platform in Europe” sees Luxembourg as “a natural step in its growth strategy” and claims to be in contact with "several dozen Luxembourg taxi drivers who have expressed interest in joining the platform".
Could the local taxi sector, traditionally insulated from private driver app competition, soon see significant changes?
Bolt is actively negotiating with local authorities to facilitate its entry into the market.
Julien Mouyeket, General Manager of Bolt France and Belgium, remarked, “We already have a strong user base in Luxembourg who utilise our services when travelling to neighbouring countries. Launching Bolt in Luxembourg is a logical step to meet the growing local demand.”
