Not one, but two new taxi companies launched on Tuesday in a shake-up for the Grand Duchy's transport sector, as three bus companies have partnered to create an alternative to Uber.
Uber launches Luxembourg partnership with WEBTAXI
Online taxi giant Uber launched their app in Luxembourg on Tuesday morning. Now, mere hours later, a Luxembourgish alternative has been announced under the name of "LetzRide".
The new app, which will allow customers to order taxis online, is a joint initiative by three different bus companies: Sales Lentz, Demy Schandler and Josy Clement. It will also deploy professional drivers, but, unlike Uber, it is not an open platform where just anyone can apply to be a driver. Instead, it will pool its partner companies' fleets of vehicles and drivers to offer competitive pricing.
Letzride promises cheaper prices than its international counterpart. In the first phase of the launch, it will allow customers to book "Shared Rides" where they can split their journey with up to seven other passengers, keeping costs down and reducing the number of cars on the roads.
The second phase will offer individual rides in collaboration with a national taxi operator. This will be announced over the course of the next week and will then be available as a service.
