Ousted MEP Monica Semedo spoke to our colleagues from RTL.lu about the results of the European elections in Luxembourg and acknowledged that she is "not happy about the result."
Semedo stated that she faced the electorate and accepted the outcome. She ran as the lead candidate for the FOKUS party but was not re-elected on Sunday. Reflecting on her tenure, Semedo noted that the past five years in the European Parliament were "not easy," but she consistently advocated for her priorities.
The FOKUS party plans to analyse the election results on Monday evening and determine its next steps.
Semedo is still under investigation by the European Parliament due to bullying accusations. She maintained that she had nothing to answer for, asserting that it was the European Parliament that needed to justify its actions.
The former MEP revealed that she submitted a request for oral pleading at the European Court of Justice, which was "unfortunately" not published before the elections. She believes this would have clarified the substance of the accusations against her.
Last Thursday, Semedo received another letter reminding her not to discuss the ongoing procedure. She perceived this letter, arriving just before the elections, as a "constant threat" and an attempt at intimidation. Semedo stated that she would not tolerate this and that she and her lawyer are considering taking legal action.
