A collision between two vehicles just one kilometre before the border led to a traffic jam spanning over 10 km on the A3 towards Thionville on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred at Croix de Bettembourg, in the Luxembourg-France direction, shortly after 3pm. The left-hand lane, where the two cars collided and debris scattered from the impact, remains blocked.

Motorists are advised by the Motorway Traffic Control and Information Centre (CITA) to expect significant delays, with traffic backing up to Croix de Bettembourg. The extended journey time is estimated at 25 minutes.

In response to the congestion, drivers are reminded to clear the emergency lane in the middle of the road to facilitate emergency vehicle access.

As alternative routes, drivers are encouraged to consider using the A4 or A13, with CITA recommending the Croix de Bettembourg bypass for travel towards France.
