Tragedy struck Leudelange this Sunday as a lifeless body was discovered following a fire that engulfed a barn.
Firefighters intervened in numbers to a barn fire in Leudelange on Sunday, which broke out at around 4pm. A total of seven fire stations had to be called upon to control the flames.
By the afternoon, the rescue teams had the situation under control but there was one person unaccounted for. After several hours of searching, authorities confirmed at around 9.45pm that a lifeless body was discovered in the rubble.
The prosecutor's office has been notified and the judicial police has been tasked with investigating the circumstances surrounding the fire. According to the Grand Ducal police, firefighters were still at the time working on fully extinguishing the fire.
The roads around Rue d'Eich that were closed around the fire site will likely remain closed until Monday morning.
What happened?
According to Yves Legil from the Grand-Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) Leudelange, Legil was called at 4pm on Sunday afternoon. By the time firefighters arrived at the scene, the barn was completely engulfed in flames. Firefighters, however, managed to prevent the flames from reaching the attached home. A total of 60 firefighters were on the scene.
