On Friday, the Minister for Research and Higher Education Stéphanie Obertin has announced a reform of the state financial aid for students (AideFi) to simplify the application process and ensure a fairer system for all students.
Through discussions with the Association of Luxembourg Student Unions (ACEL), the minister confirmed that the main pillars of support, including the basic scholarship, the mobility grant, and the student loan will remain in place.
However, several changes have been introduced to improve fairness and transparency.
Student financial aid will now be indexed at the start of each semester rather than annually. The mobility grant will be increased by €158 per year. To encourage students to successfully complete their studies, a bonus of €250 will be awarded to those who pass their year.
Additionally, PhDs have been removed from the law governing AideFi and will now be managed by the National Research Fund (FNR).
