Luxembourg is on alert as heavy rainfall is expected to lead to an increase in water levels across the country in the coming hours.

The Ministry of the Environment has initiated a flood watch phase in response to the impending weather conditions.

According to Luxembourg's flood forecasting service, the forecast indicates a heightened risk due to widespread rainfall anticipated from Wednesday evening through Thursday night. The greatest impact is expected in the southwestern regions, with significant rises projected for rivers in these areas, as detailed on the inondations.lu website.

Thursday evening poses a particular concern for the Alzette river, where water levels may exceed alert thresholds. However, the exact trajectory of river levels remains uncertain pending further updates on weather patterns.

Following light rainfall on Wednesday, MeteoLux anticipates a shift to moderate to heavy precipitation overnight from Wednesday into Thursday.

The national weather service has consequently issued an orange alert for Thursday.
