This time next year, passengers could be able to travel from Kirchberg to Findel and back using the tram.

To date, construction deadlines on the capital's tram line extension have been met, and work is progressing to schedule. In May 2023, the most complicated and essential element of the project was completed, as the new tram bridge was installed over the A1 motorway ahead of schedule.

Tram rails have already been laid along almost the entire length of the bridge and are expected to be completed at the end of January or beginning of February. The rails were manufactured in Luxembourg at the Rodange ArcelorMittal site, similar to the rails installed at the Cloche d'or.

The imposing bridge can be viewed when travelling along the motorway to Trier. 110 metres long and weighing 1,700 tonnes, the bridge will be the future junction point linking the LuxExpo and the airport.

The new section of the tram linking the LuxExpo station and Findel will be 3.9 kilometres long. Passing through the forest and following the A1 motorway, it will reach top speeds of up to 70 km/h - making it the fastest section of the whole tram network. Passengers will be transported between Findel and Kirchberg at a rate of one tram every 7 minutes. The first passengers to benefit from this new line could hop aboard as early as January 2025.
