The Bettembourg municipal council has expressed its "deep concern and indignation" following two sexual assaults that occurred in the commune in less than a week. In a statement published on social media, the council described the attacks as "cowardly", calling the incidents both "sad and unacceptable". The council voiced its shock that such acts could take place in the community.
The first incident took place last Friday, when police appealed for witnesses after a 19-year-old woman was grabbed by an unknown man on the street. The assailant reportedly followed her all the way to her home. A second assault was reported on Wednesday, this time involving a minor who was targeted on rue Marie-Thérèse. In this case, the perpetrator approached the girl from behind, touched her inappropriately, and then fled the scene on a scooter.
It is not yet clear whether the two assaults are connected or whether last week’s appeal for witnesses has led to any leads. Despite repeated enquiries, police have not provided further updates. The council has sought to reassure residents, emphasising their close contact with police, who have increased their presence in the area and continue to investigate both incidents.
