Winter weather has finally gripped the Grand Duchy, with treacherous roads and sub-zero temperatures forecast for the coming days amid warnings of snow and freezing-cold fog.

With the roads in parts of the Grand Duchy already freezing over on Tuesday evening, traffic conditions remain treacherous this Wednesday morning.

The day started with freezing fog and is poised to end in similar fashion, with temperatures ranging from -4°C in the south to -6°C in the north in the early hours. Some "light snowfall" will be possible throughout the day, warns Meteolux. The meteorological service has also placed the north of the country under yellow alert from 8am to 11am on Wednesday, with snow totals of up to 2 to 3cm expected above 300m.

The Grand Duchy currently finds itself in the middle of a low-pressure area stretching from the Baltic to the Adriatic Sea. This is also bringing cold air from Scandinavia, so the weather looks set to remain wintry over the coming few days. Temperatures are forecast to stay below 2 to 3°C during the day.

Light snow and rain are further expected on Thursday, but the coldest weather is forecast for Friday. Temperatures will remain below 0°C during the day and drop down to to -4°C in the evening.
