The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) recently released its 'Health at a Glance 2023' report.
The report reveals that Luxembourg boasts an average life expectancy of 82.7 years, securing its position in the top ten among the 37 OECD member countries. Notably, Luxembourg stands out as one of the few nations where life expectancy remained unaffected during the pandemic.
The study disclosed a 5% decrease in the number of deaths compared to pre-pandemic years. In addition, the report highlights that during the pandemic, Luxembourg directed 3.6% of its spending toward the healthcare sector, in contrast to the pre-2019 allocation of just under 1.5%.
In terms of lifestyle, the residents of Luxembourg get enough exercise and exhibit lower rates of obesity compared to the OECD average. However, room for improvement exists concerning tobacco and alcohol consumption, as well as dietary habits, according to the OECD's evaluation.
Access to medical services in Luxembourg is considered "quite good," with households spending significantly less on healthcare-related expenses than the OECD average. 86% of the population is satisfied with the availability of quality care. This high level of satisfaction places Luxembourg in the third position, behind Switzerland and Belgium in the OECD ranking.
