The Ministry of Housing has reached an agreement with the municipality of Esch-sur-Sûre to build affordable housing units in the centre of Eschdorf.
An affordable housing complex, made up of nineteen single-family homes and two apartment blocks, with six flats each, will be built behind Eschdorf's new town hall in the small village in north-west Luxembourg.
One of the buildings will also house several municipal offices, according to an agreement signed by the Ministry of Housing and mayor Laurent Hilger. The announcement was made official on Friday morning.
The government is set to acquire a 60-acre plot to house this "Hannert der Gemeng" ("behind the commune") project, which will see 31 units built by the National Low-Cost Housing Administration (SNHBM). The nineteen houses will be put up for sale while all twelve of the apartments will be reserved for tenants.
