The Luxembourg international footballer is facing court over three counts of alleged bodily harm.

Luxembourg forward Gerson Rodrigues, currently on loan at Turkish club Sivasspor, has been charged with three counts of bodily harm and is also accused of insulting the police.

One case of assault dates back to March 2019, when Rodrigues is alleged to have punched a man in the face outside an establishment in Luxembourg City's Gare district. The victim claims to have been unable to work for several months due to facial fractures and is due to undergo a third operation related to the incident. The victim's lawyer is requesting over €90,000 in damages.

In June 2022, Rodrigues allegedly punched another man in the face outside a nightclub in the capital, knocking out the victim's tooth in the process. However, both parties agreed on a settlement following the incident, meaning no civil action was filed.

The most recent accusations against Rodrigues date back to 25 November 2022, when the footballer is alleged to have punched his ex-girlfriend in the face. The former Miss Luxembourg 2020 did not reveal the abuse on social media until several months after the incident, sharing images of her bruised mouth and publicly naming her former partner as the culprit. Rodrigues denied the claims.

In addition, the charges of insulting a police officer also date back to that evening.

However, the five witness statements - which include those given by two friends of the accused and alleged victim- are contradictory in part, although all agree that that the evening's events were affected by alcohol consumption. The prosecution and the judge requested further details on multiple occasions in order to reconstruct the evening in question and clearly distinguish it from others. The defence admitted the evening had been "tumultuous" for Rodrigues, but also submitted into evidence a number of videos captured on a mobile phone which could prove relevant to the case. These are due to be checked.

The civil action on behalf of the victim is asking for €6,928 in damages.

Due to the number of outstanding issues with the case, the prosecutor was unable to present the requisition on the first day in court. The accused's defence plea has now been moved to 29 November. The verdict, which was initially due on 6 October, will be moved back accordingly.

Rodrigues, who was not present in person in court on Wednesday, was represented by Maître Rauchs.

The court aims to judge all cases at once.

As always, the presumption of innocence is to be maintained until a verdict is reached.
