According to Portuguese media, the man in question was known as "the Swiss" in the Minho region. Born in Luxembourg, raised in Portugal, the 40-year-old owns a significant real estate portfolio between Braga, where he resides, and Famalicão, where several of his properties are located. Those who know him describe him as a man with a "direct" temperament, who "doesn't back down", explaining his reaction to the theft.
He was reportedly in Lisbon on a business trip when thieves stole his €100,000 Rolex watch. He promptly gave chase in his car, despite the fact some of the group were armed.
The chase ended when one of the thieves was knocked off their motorbike by the car belonging to the watch's owner. The thief ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
The incident attracted plenty of media attention in Portugal, primarily due to the driver's profile. He still has family ties to Luxembourg despite living in Portugal most of his life. The authorities have opened an investigation into the incident to determine the exact circumstances of the car chase and fatal collision.
