Allegations of police violenceTwo police officers to be provisionally released from custody

RTL Today
The public prosecutor's office confirmed that two out of the four officers arrested for alleged police violence could soon benefit from a provisional release.

The Luxembourg City district court council chamber granted a provisional release to two of the detained police officers on Wednesday, following their initial arrest on 10 July 2023.

The prosecution lodged an appeal against the court’s decision on Thursday, meaning the two suspects will remain in custody until the council chamber has responded. This must be decided within ten days.

All four officers, presumed innocent, were suspected of having been complicit in violent acts committed against an intoxicated individual in police custody on 20 May 2023. Three of the four, all of whom were employed at a police station in the capital, were arrested on 10 July, with the fourth taken into custody three days later.

An investigation by the General Police Inspectorate (IGP) is still ongoing.
