The main victim of the former children's coach sentenced to five years in prison for filming under-aged athletes in the showers spoke to RTL about the situation now the case has concluded.

RTL.lu already spoke to main plaintiff Anna (not her real name) a couple of weeks ago to recapitulate the events around the now-sentenced volleyball coach who filmed her and other under-aged athletes in the showers. The case was even more severe for Anna, has the perpetrator was her father's best friend and also had access to her home.

Over the course of several years, the coach had taken 3,000 images of her.

The majority of the court case played out in June and the verdict was announced last week. The coach was sentenced to five years in prison, three of which are conditionally suspended.

Anna remembers growing impatient at the time: "I did not know when exactly the verdict would be announced. I kept looking at my phone and waiting for the news." Eventually, a friend contacted her through text message to inform her that a verdict was reached.

"I was simply pleased, happy, and relieved, but also surprised", Anna admits as she did not think that her former coach would be incarcerated.

22 girls had joined the coalition of plaintiffs and were awarded €3,000 each. Anna will receive €8,000 as she is considered the main victim. "I also did not expect such a high amount, but I don't really care about the money. I am simply happy that he will be in prison", she says.

The former coach, aside from facing a five-year prison sentence, will have to undergo psychiatric treatment for pedophilia. Anna doubts whether this will help since the defendant is said to keep on lying to his family despite having admitted to his actions in court.

Anna adds: "But he will have enough time in prison to think about it. I really hope that he learns from his mistakes. I also think it won't be a fun experience for him. After all it is known that convicted pedophiles are not the most popular inmates."

The former volleyball coach still has 40 days to appeal the court decision, which Anna finds an unlikely path for him. According to the prosecutor's office, no appeal attempt has been lodged at this point.

Anna is therefore generally relieved that the episode is now considered over: "Now all the stress is over and I can let it sink."
