A fight broke out amongst LTC pupils on Thursday, with online threats suggesting the dispute could continue into Friday.

In response to the altercation, the school went ahead with smaller-scale activities for the pupils, but larger gatherings were forbidden.

Police were also present at the event as a preventive measure, so as to ensure that the celebrations could proceed without the risk of continued violence.

During a press briefing on Friday, Minister of Education Claude Meisch confirmed that the fight "mostly did not take place on school premises," while acknowledging that the end-of-year celebrations were "cancelled or greatly reduced" in part because of continued threats issued via social media. The minister concluded that the forced cancellation of the event "is a pity for all of the students who were not involved."

Behavioural problems among certain pupils are, however, not isolated to LCT.

As reported by Tageblatt, staff at Lycee Technique Bonnevoie (LCB) called an emergency meeting due to disappointment with how school leadership handles pupils who display challenging behaviour.

Responding rumours that the school management at LCB had been removed, minister Meisch stated that this is not true and instead emphasised that "constructive discussions" had been held.
