Likeable, competent, or both? The second part of the Ilres survey produced for RTL and the Luxemburger Wort shows how voters rank the country's top politicians.

The survey quizzed voters on the degree of sympathy and competence inspired by Luxembourg's politicians, then used a combination of this data to create an overall score, making it possible to classify the most popular politicians.

The LSAP's Jean Asselborn retakes first place from health minister Paulette Lenert, who topped the last Politmonitor survey after gaining popularity during the coronavirus pandemic. The foreign minister picked up 77 points overall.

This time round, Lenert dropped points, but still came in second, with incumbent Prime Minister Xavier Bettel sitting in third place once again.

For the Prime Minister, who has been in office since 2013, time appears to be a strength. Bettel's continued tour de force as one of the Grand Duchy's essential personalities is largely attributed to his government's handling of recent crises, and successful tripartite agreements. He is followed by Lydie Polfer, who was recently re-elected mayor of Luxembourg City in the local elections.

Most notably, there is not one single Green Party member among the top 10 most popular politicians, reflecting the lack of popularity observed in Wednesday's publication, where just 4% of voters said they would choose justice minister Sam Tanson as Prime Minister in October.

In terms of opposition, Luc Frieden takes fifth place, owing his recent surge in popularity to his status as the CSV's official lead candidate for October's elections. Sven Clement, the ambitious leader of the Pirate Party, and Minister of the Interior Taina Bofferding, sit in sixth and seventh places respectively.

The DP's Lex Delles (52 points), and the CSV's Claude Wiseler (52 points) and Serge Wilmes (51 points) complete the rest of the top ten.
