After reports of a suspicious man with a white van targeting school children had been making rounds in Luxembourg over the past couple of days, two students from the International School of Luxembourg were reportedly approached by an individual fitting the suspect description.

An email sent on Tuesday by the International School of Luxembourg (ISL) confirmed that two of their students had been "approached by a man with a white van". According to the ISL Crisis Task Force, the incident occurred near the Cactus supermarket in Merl at around 8am that same day.

The below e-mail issued by ISL to parents of the school has been making the rounds on social media. ISL confirmed the veracity of the e-mail to RTL Today, but did not wish to make further comment as this is a police matter.

Reports of suspicious "white vans" had been multiplying in Luxembourg over the past couple of days and Henri Kox, the Minister of Internal Security, has already announced that an investigation was opened and that police increased their presence in several places frequented by children.

The ISL therefore informed parents about the incident that affected two of their students. According to the email, which was acquired by RTL Today, the man in question had stood in front of the van and whistled and waved at the children. The latter ignored the stranger and continued their walk to school.

The ISL has since reported the incident to the authorities and advised parents to warn their children. Furthermore, teachers will address the issue in class. As far as pupils are concerned, the school suggests that the youngest pupils should always be accompanied by a parent or older student when going to or leaving the school.

Police have dedicated a special page on their website to recommendations for children on how to best react when approached by strangers.
