Over recent days, police have received reports of strange men approaching children, particularly girls, in southern Luxembourg. A complaint has been filed.

This week has seen numerous posts on social media warning of several men in a white van travelling through areas in southern Luxembourg, including Esch-sur-Alzette and Niederkorn.

The men are said to be targeting children, especially girls, talking to them and even in one instance touching a girl on the arm.

RTL requested clarification from the police, who confirmed they had received a number of these reports over the last few days. Several children had been approached by the strangers, with one girl telling police a man had grabbed her arm. A complaint was filed as a result.

Police were unable to confirm whether two girls had been kidnapped, as rumoured on social media, but insisted that such reports were taken seriously. An investigation has been launched into the matter and a number of checks already carried out, although nothing suspicious or alarming had been identified in a preliminary phase.

The prosecutor's office has been notified and the judicial police has been charged with an investigation
