The 22nd editionG of the German-speaking leaders' summit is taking place over two days in Innsbruck and Alpbach, Austria. The event began with a working lunch in Innsbruck on Tuesday, where Austrian Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen welcomed the heads of state from five countries where German is spoken.
For Grand Duke Guillaume, this is his first time participating in the meeting in an official capacity as Luxembourg's head of state, following his accession earlier this year. The summit is being held under the theme "Unity in Europe", with King Philippe of Belgium, German Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Hereditary Prince Alois of Liechtenstein, and Swiss Federal President Guy Parmelin also in attendance.
The programme for Tuesday afternoon included a visit to the Stubai Glacier, followed by a traditional regional welcome ceremony in front of Innsbruck’s Hofburg palace. In addition to the official meetings, the summit offers several opportunities for informal exchanges, not only for the political leaders but also for their spouses, who are encouraged to meet and network during the gathering.
The summit will resume on Wednesday at the European Forum Alpbach, where a working session is planned on the topic "How Europe wins". The heads of state are also scheduled to meet with students from their respective countries, fostering dialogue between national leaders and younger generations.
