Unjustified concern or real threat? In recent days, worrying reports of suspicious individuals near Luxembourgish schools have appeared on social networks and an investigation has now been launched, confirms the Minister of Internal Security.
Authorities are currently taking a closer look at the issue of a suspicious white van, which has reportedly been spotted near schools in recent days. The notorious vehicle has already been reported to the police in several municipalities in the south of the country and young girls have allegedly been approached and in some cases even touched by strangers.
In response to a parliamentary enquiry from MP Nancy Arendt from the Christian Social People's Party (CSV), Minister of Internal Security Henri Kox recently provided an update about the situation: "Police patrols have been made aware and are showing an increased presence near play areas, schools, and places where children are generally engaged in school or leisure activities."
Although an investigation is underway, no information will be released at this stage, the Minister further noted. At the same time, he insisted that no cases have been reported in other parts of the country thus far.
Police have dedicated a special page on their website to recommendations for children on how to best react when approached by strangers.
