HousingYouth parties join forces to demand more effective policies
The housing market represents one of the biggest problems for Luxembourg's youth - and the country's youth parties are clamouring for action.
Mesurë géint Logementskris ginn net duer!
Et ass ee vun de gréisste Problemer hei am Land an dat zemools fir déi Jonk, déi nach kee Fouss an der Dier hunn: Rieds geet vum Logement.
The housing crisis is at its peak and it is important that young people continue to have access to housing. The government has not done enough, claim the youth parties of the CSV, the Greens, the LSAP and the DP.
Shortly before the end of the legislative period, the four youth parties joined forces to present their demands to the government:
- The government should buy up 1,500 flats in construction at a reasonable price to secure the construction sector and develop a stock of affordable housing.
- In addition, the mobilisation tax on vacant land should be increased and seized more quickly.
- The state guarantee, which the state offers on a property loan if one does not have the means to get one oneself, should also be increased: Currently it is 153,000 euros, which is not at all in line with current prices on the housing market.
- It is clear that private purchases must continue to be possible, but private buyers should be given advantages over investors through these measures.
The youth parties hope to find an open ear with the government before the elections.
