A drunken driver almost ran over a woman in the residential area of Neudorf in Esch-sur-Alzette, and gave the police a hard time on Sunday afternoon.

The police was called on Sunday afternoon after a drunk man who was involved in a domestic violence altercation tried to flee the scene, almost driving over a woman.

When officers arrived at the scene, they spotted the man trying to drive away and ordered him to turn off the engine, which he refused. As the police approached the vehicle, the man abruptly reversed his car to the end of the dead-end road.

The driver then hit the gas and then ran into the officers who had to quickly jump out of the way in order to avoid being crushed. The man's attempt to flee failed however, due to several vehicles blocking the way. Still not responding to the officers' orders, the police decided to break the window of the car and mobilise the driver who put up a lot of resistance.

One of the police officers was injured during the arrest.

The man was arrested on the orders of the public prosecutor's office and presented to an examining magistrate on Monday.
