On Saturday morning, the Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) presented its programme for the municipal elections to a crowd of hundreds at Kinepolis in Kirchberg.

The event was attended by 565 LSAP members, including lead candidates Maxime Miltgen and Gabriel Boisante, who declared the party's readiness and unity in their opening remarks.

The LSAP's slogan for the municipal elections was also unveiled: "Time for strong social municipalities!" Co-President Dan Biancalana highlighted the party's recent modernization and increase in membership, particularly among young people.

The LSAP's mission is to engage in politics "with the people and for the people." The party leaders emphasized that they are not simply "near you," as the Democratic Party (DP) has suggested in their recent slogan, but rather fully immersed in society. The LSAP aims to prioritize young people in the upcoming election year of 2023 and advocate for a lower voting age of 16.

The party leadership also stressed the importance of citizen participation in local politics and reaffirmed their support for a general reduction in working time and the wage indexation system. "With the LSAP, the index will neither be abolished nor capped," said Co-President Francine Closener, emphasizing the party's commitment to social progress and equality.

Minister for Home Affairs Taina Boffering emphasized the significance of who is in charge of government and municipalities, and urged for "more LSAP for the good of the country."

In her concluding speech, LSAP's designated national lead candidate and current Deputy Prime Minister Paulette Lenert emphasized the party's culture of debate and diversity. She called for continued work towards the LSAP and the betterment of Luxembourgish society, stressing that only together will they be able to convince voters.

The LSAP's campaign for the municipal elections will launch on May 16 in Differdange.
