A petition published on the website of the Chamber of Deputies calling for the cancellation of the ban on internal combustion engines from 2035 has attracted huge support.

As of Saturday morning, the petition has already reached 6,000 signatures and will remain online on the official website for another 39 days. A total of 4,500 signatures are needed to organise a public debate in the Chamber of Deputies.

The debate will only be organised after the end of the deadline and only after the signatures have been validated by the Parliamentary Committee in charge of the file.

The petitioner asks authorities not to support the EU plans which aim to reduce CO2 emissions from new cars and vans in Europe to zero from 2035. Agreed on in October by Member States and European Parliament negotiators, the text was formally approved by MEPs in mid-February.
