A series of break-ins took place across the country on Thursday, affecting properties in Holzem, Kirchberg, Mamer, Hesperange and Clausen.

At around 8pm, intruders climbed a fence and broke into a business building on Route de Capellen, Holzem. The perpetrators broke a window to gain access, thus triggering the alarm, and fled the scene empty-handed.

In Kirchberg, thieves broke open a terrace door to enter a ground-floor residence on Rue des Maraîchers shortly after 8pm. However, a neighbour caught the intruders in the act, causing them to run away. A police search did not find the perpetrators.

In Mamer, burglars broke into a home on Rue des Merisiers after climbing on to the roof and kicking in a top floor window. The intruders searched the whole house and stole a number of jewellery pieces before making their escape.

Another suspect gained entry to a house on Montée de Château, Hesperange, through a back door and stole a number of valuables at some point between midday and 6pm on Thursday.

Finally, a ground-floor apartment on Rue de la Tour Jacob, Clausen, was broken into between 9am and 5.30pm, with a number of valuable items going missing. It is thought the intruders smashed a window in order to gain access.

Each case is being investigated by the police, with forensics teams searching each property.
