So far, 59 volunteers have signed up to help during this year's 'Wanteraktioun'.
In 2022, the Wanteraktioun ("Winter Action") starts on 15 November, rather than 1 December as in previous years. During a press briefing on Tuesday morning, Minister for Family Affairs Corinne Cahen announced that the initiative will last until 15 April 2023. The Chamber of Deputies still has to approve the budget. A total of €1.8 million have been earmarked.
The shelter that is set up every year for the Wanteraktioun is located at Findel Airport. Those in need of a place to sleep during the cold winter months can use Luxembourg's free public transport but also a special shuttle bus that departs from the central railway station to get to the location. There are 250 beds available, 18 of which are reserved for women. However, according to the Minister, this capacity has never been reached.
The Wanteraktioun is managed by a team of around 20 professionals from Inter-Actions, Caritas, the Luxembourg Red Cross, and the Dräieck association. In addition to them, volunteers are needed. 80 volunteers participated in 2021. 59 have come forward for the 2022 edition so far. Registrations are still open.
