UN General AssemblyPM's husband Gauthier Destenay covered costs of New York trip himself: Ministry of State

The Ministry of State further underlines that it is "not unusual" for the spouse of a state leader to accompany their partner to the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Last week, Gauthier Destenay accompanied the Luxembourgish delegation around his husband, Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, to the General Assembly of the United Nations in New York. Aside from supporting his partner, Destenay also participated in the UN’s so-called ‘spouse programme’, during which several partners of state leaders, such as Olena Zelenska from Ukraine, convened for a number of meetings.

The Ministry of State has since clarified that Destenay covered the costs of his flight himself. Also, his spell in New York did not lead to any additional costs for the government, the Ministry further notes.
