On Friday afternoon, the government council met to approve the legislation behind numerous important support measures agreed with the tripartite.

In a press release, the Prime Minister's team explained it had commenced work on implementing multiple key measures:

  • €0.15 aid per cubic metre of natural gas consumed by private individuals from 1 August to 31 December 2026;
  • a subsidy worth €0.04/kWh for electricity, from 1 August;
  • compensation worth €0.15 per litre of diesel used as heating oil as well as diesel used exclusively for agricultural activities, winegrowing, horticultural work, fish farming and forestry;
  • a reduction of €0.05 per litre for autonomous excise duties on petrol and diesel used as fuel from 1 July to 31 December 2026.

The legislation to support the expenses filed by passenger and freight transport companies was also approved. "This scheme provides for compensation of up to 70% of the additional fuel costs actually incurred by the companies concerned during the months of March to December 2026."

One of the key measures decided at the very end of the tripartite meeting between social partners is a significant increase in the minimum wage. According to calculations published earlier this week by the government, the increase will reach €203.50 net by July 2027 for those receiving the minimum social wage for unskilled workers.
