The new bill would enable adults to grow up to four cannabis plants at home, per household, to allow a limited amount for personal consumption.
The government council has approved the draft bill which will update the amended law of 19 February 1973 concerning the sale of medicinal substances and the fight against drug addiction.
The bill will authorise the personal consumption of cannabis at home, limiting it to the private sphere, while also removing penal sanctions for the consumption of small amounts of the drug in the streets, which will no longer be a criminal offence.
However, consumption for drivers remains prohibited.
