Last year, the National Society for Affordable Housing (SNHBM) added 300 apartments to the Grand Duchy's housing market, a new record.
Furthermore, over 1,000 new apartments are currently under construction.
SNHBM officials expressed satisfaction over last year's achievements, especially in light of the current problems caused by the pandemic and the war in Ukraine, which both lead to price increases affecting the construction sector.
Close to 7,500 people are on the SNHBM waiting list to purchase an apartment. A further 3,200 intend to rent a place. However, renting has become less of a priority for the SNHBM in recent years, with only 350 places on offer.
People need to respond to certain social criteria to become eligible for an apartment through the SNHBM.
At the moment, the SNHBM has land available to construct 3,000 new apartments. A major project, entitled 'Elmen', is currently underway in Kehlen. 2,000 people are expected to live in what is said to become almost a new town.
The first residents are scheduled to move in at the end of September and beginning of October.
