MPs André Bauler and Gusty Graas from the Democratic Party (DP) recently addressed the rising meat prices in a parliamentary enquiry.

Both DP politicians were interested to know how much meat prices have risen since October 2021, who benefits from the higher prices, and if the war in Ukraine is to blame for the evolution.

In his response (LUX)
, Minister of Agriculture, Viticulture and Rural Development Claude Haagen acknowledged that consumer prices have risen and explained that groceries make up 11.4% of people's shopping baskets.

All meat prices have risen since October, Minister Haagen further revealed: beef and veal increased by 4.4% while pork went up by 3% over the same period in time. Minister Haagen also warned that prices may increase even further, but he was unable to say whether or not the war in Ukraine is to blame.
