Since things tend to be quieter in the summer months, both on the roads and on public transport, Luxembourg's national rail company CFL made the most of the lull to modernise the rail network. Replacement buses were deployed wherever needed.

Over that period, 15 kilometres of track were renewed on various lines, including at Livange, between Cinqfontaines and Troisvierges, and between Wecker and Mertert, while the border bridge at Wasserbillig was also refurbished.

In total, 47 stations and stops were upgraded, and a 300-metre stretch of slope along the northern line was secured to prevent rocks from falling onto the tracks.

On top of that, new escalators were installed at the Howald transport hub and will become operational in October.

A new additional underpass has also been opened at Bettembourg station. At the same time, the final 250-metre section of the new railway line between Bettembourg and Luxembourg City was completed.

The new line is on track to be ready by September 2027, as planned.
