At midday on Monday, the Luxembourg Association of Doctors and Dentists (AMMD) put out a press release taking issue with statements made by Health Minister Martine Deprez and Luxembourg Socialist Workers' Party (LSAP) MP Mars Di Bartolomeo.
The AMMD said it wanted to set the record straight on what it described as "disinformation" currently doing the rounds.
It is not true, contrary to the minister's claims, that the AMMD agrees with the text of the new convention but is refusing to sign it.
The AMMD will not sign anything without an agreement on modernising the legislative framework, the press release reads, and their position has been clear since the previous convention was terminated.
It is also untrue, the AMMD added, for the minister to say that the system of convention-based medical care in the country will be maintained, since no such care can exist without a convention in place.
Neither the minister nor the National Health Fund (CNS), in the AMMD's view, has made even the slightest effort to reach a real agreement with the doctors' body.
Furthermore, it is not possible, the association argues, for the AMMD to be replaced as a contracting partner, since no other association has the numbers of members, the experience or the seniority required under the relevant article of the Social Security Code.
Additionally, the AMMD said it enjoys the backing of the majority of the country's medical profession.
