Minister for Mobility and Public Works François Bausch provided this information in his response to a parliamentary enquiry, filed by MP Paul Galles from the Christian Social People's Party (CSV).
In his enquiry, MP Galles noted that due to the unfolding energy crisis, every member of society has to take responsibility, which also applies to the government. The CSV politician thus enquired about the number of public buildings equipped with solar energy systems and how the buildings are heated in general.
In his response, Bausch explained that 40 buildings housing public administrations are equipped with photovoltaic installations and 19 with solar systems. This represents a rate of 4% out of the 1,500 public buildings in Luxembourg. He also emphasised that such installations are mainly placed on large-scale buildings.
The majority of public buildings are still heated with fossil fuel-based energy, Minister Bausch further acknowledged. 34 buildings are heated with biomass, while 84 are connected to a district heating network.
