
The Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) reports that two members of their Humanitarian Intervention Team (HIT) will take an emergency.lu satellite communications system to Venezuela, to assist in restoring telecommunications in the area.
The mission aims to support humanitarian organisations on the ground and enable them to continue their work. The team will depart Luxembourg at 11pm on Friday aboard a Luxembourg Air Rescue aircraft.
Three further HIT experts from the European Commission's coordination team will depart on Saturday morning on a dedicated EU flight to provide additional support
The mission is initially expected to last around two weeks. The operation was organised by the European catastrophe defence mechanism framework and is partially financed by the EU (75%) and the Luxembourg foreign ministry (25%), according to a press release published by the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
